Virgile Grandclaude is a Managing Partner at ICOSA and Head of the Chemistry department.

He holds a PhD in Chemistry from the INSA Rouen, an Engineering degree in Chemistry from the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Mulhouse, and a Master’s in Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry from the University of Haute-Alsace. He is also a CEIPI graduate (Patents)

A European and French Patent Attorney, Virgile began his IP career in 2012 at a leading international IP firm, where he advised major international groups in the cosmetics and petrochemical sectors, as well as pharmaceutical SMEs, on managing and protecting their patent portfolios. He joined ICOSA in 2018.

Since then, Virgile has developed strong expertise in protecting technological innovations, including identifying high-potential projects, conducting patentability assessments, drafting patent applications, and formalizing know-how. He also has solid experience in innovation exploitation strategies, particularly in conducting multi-jurisdictional freedom-to-operate (FTO) studies in highly competitive environments. He is well-versed in grant and opposition procedures in France, Europe, and other jurisdictions.

A Partner at ICOSA since 2020, Virgile now leads a team of 14 patent engineers specialized in chemistry, supporting high-growth companies, SMEs, and industrial groups in protecting and leveraging their intellectual property assets.
